St Clair claimed the top club spot at the 2016 Southern Region Pool Championships over the weekend with a 76 point lead ahead of South Brighton.

The Dunedin club finished on 224 points to South Brighton's 148 with Waimairi in third place with 119 points. New Brighton (52) and Waikuku Beach (50) rounded out the top five.

The event was held at the Moana Pool in Dunedin with over 200 athletes taking part from 12 different clubs.

The champs featured events ranging from manikin carries and obstacles to line throw and rescue medleys. All the events are based around rescue capability and are specific to saving people's lives- what surf lifesaving is all about.
